The road

Good to know

  • Important for 2026: the main Gisht Kuprik (Chernyaevka) – Zhibek Zholy crossing has been closed for reconstruction since 5 February 2025. The September 2026 target was missed; on 29 September 2026 Kun.uz reported that it is now expected to reopen by the end of 2026. Meanwhile pedestrians use the Kaplanbek crossing. Sources disagree on Kaplanbek’s hours (daylight only, 8:00–20:00, or around the clock), so we confirm them before every booking and plan daytime crossings.
  • You need the right entry rules for Kazakhstan for your passport; many nationalities are visa-free.
